On 12th October, “The International Law on Campus” activity co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the Macao SAR and CityU was successfully held on campus. Honourable guests including Vice Rector Professor Kong Fanqing, Executive Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business Professor Khong Yueng Wah, Executive Director of the Preparatory Office of the Faculty of Law Professor Kuan Kun Hong, Director of the General Education Office Assistant Professor Liu Wenjian, Head of the Student Affairs Office Ms. Zhou Pinqiu, Deputy Director-General of the General Affairs Department of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the Macao SAR, etc. attended the event. Counsellor of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Mr. Chen Song also participated in the seminar as the keynote speaker. Counsellor Chen Song is dedicated to conducting political and economic researches and engaging in diplomatic policies researches and planning. He also participated in drafting papers for major diplomatic activities including the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs, Conference of Chinese Diplomatic Envoys Stationed Abroad, etc. and major speeches including addresses by Chinese leaders to foreign countries, etc. In addition, Chen served in the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand. Counsellor Chen Song is familiar with international situations and diplomatic policies. Vice Rector Kong Fanqing extended her warm welcome to Counsellor Chen and exchanged souvenirs with Counsellor Chen. This seminar attracted over one hundred students to participate. Counsellor Chen delivered a speech on the topic of “Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics”. It was divided into three parts – diplomatic policies, diplomatic chronicles and diplomatic concepts. He examined economic and political changes in countries around the world after the financial crisis in 2008 to further broaden the horizon and open up the mentality of teachers and students of CityU. Students actively engaged in the Q&A session and exchanged ideas with Counsellor Chen on measures to further secure safety of overseas Chinese, contemporary challenges for countries around the world, Chinese and U.S. economies, Sino-Japanese relations and actions to give a full play to Macao’s role in the region. Counsellor Chen answered students’ questions by analyzing the global diplomatic situations and policies. He also encouraged students of CityU to work hard and to contribute to the better development of Macau in the international arena, more precise understanding of Macau by the world and hence the stronger growth of our Motherland. He urged students to dedicate themselves to the developing the Motherland and Macau. |
