FITM & SCS City U Hold the 3rd Starwood Development Program Commencement and Promotion Ceremony
The 3rd Starwood Development Program Commencement and Promotion Ceremony was recently held by the FITM and SCS City U, Sheraton Macau Cotai Central, and St. Regis Macau Cotai Central. All students of the program enjoy college tuitions for four years covered by the cooperative enterprise in addition to their student subsistence allowance. Forty eight new students have joined the program in 2015/2016 academic year and five students enrolled in previous semesters were promoted this year.
Lauched in 2013, the Sheraton Professional Development Scheme, was renamed “Starwood Development Program” with the inclusion of St. Regis Macau. Ms. Janet McNab, Managing Director of Sheraton Macau and St. Regis Macau, Ms. Chen S.L, HR General Manager of Sheraton Macau, Ms. Sílvia Ribeiro Osório Ho, Deputy Director of GAES, and Prof. Aliana Leong, Vice Rector of City U were present at the ceremony to witness the start of the new students’ internship and celebrate the accomplishments of those who were promoted.
Ms. JanetMcNab shared her experience working with the Starwood Group for twenty five years. By introducing her own working experience in Australia, Thailand, China, and Nepal, she encouraged the students to be bold and creative.
Ms. Chen S.L said in her speech that the program attaches equal importance to academic learning and practice. Over 120 students have joined the Program since its establishment and all these students and their parents are pleased with what they have achieved. St. Regis Macau, which will open in December this year, has further expanded the scale of Starwood Development Program. The program allows local students to accumulate practical working experience in top hotels and master overall knowledge and skills hotel operation as manager level professionals.
Prof. Aliana Leong congratulated the promoted students and urged them to treasure all opportunities of learning from hotel experts. She encouraged the students to stay loyal to the hospitality industry and to contribute to society with what they have learned.
Chen X.D and Lu Y.C., interns with the Housekeeping Department, were two of the five promoted students whose excellent performance had reached supervisor level. Chen said that his parents were against him taking up the internship as they deemed it was too difficult to find a balance between work and studies. After being in the program for some time, his parents have been so impressed with his growth and subsequently, his brother has joined the program this year.
Mao Y.X has been in the Program for two years and has worked at different departments. She enjoyed working in concierges most as the post brought her opportunities to meet and help tourists from around the world. She shared her experience of helping a foreign couple with some tourism information and received local gifts from them before they left. She appreciated the experience that broadened her horizons, socially and culturally.
