CityU inaugurates Sichuan-Chongqing Alumni Association and holds Annual Meeting of Regional Alumni Associations 2025

The founding ceremony of the City University of Macau Sichuan-Chongqing Alumni Association and the Annual Meeting of Regional Alumni Associations 2025 were successfully held in Chengdu. Over 200 alumni representatives from Beijing, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Xinjiang, Macau, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Chongqing gathered in Chengdu to celebrate the establishment of the Sichuan-Chongqing Alumni Association.

During the ceremony, Rector Jun Liu warmly congratulated the establishment of the association. He pointed out that the Sichuan-Chongqing region, as an important strategic pivot for the country’s western development, would benefit from the association’s establishment, bringing new momentum into local economic and social development. He emphasized that every alumnus is a valuable asset to the University and an important link between CityU and the local community. He expressed hope that the Sichuan-Chongqing Alumni Association would fully leverage its platform to promote resource sharing among alumni, support local development, and provide suggestions for the University’s growth.

During the awarding ceremony, Rector Liu presented the Sichuan-Chongqing Alumni Association with its plaque, while Pro-Rector Robert Chan Chon Pat awarded appointment letters to the key members of the alumni association. Subsequently, alumni associations from eight regions sent their congratulations and gifts to the new association.

The first president of the Sichuan-Chongqing Alumni Association, Peng Hanbing, pledged during his inauguration speech to uphold the mission of “serving the alma mater, alumni, and society”. He emphasized the focus on building a platform for industry-academic collaboration to promote efficient resource integration, envisioning the Sichuan-Chongqing Alumni Association as a bridge to bring together wisdom and strength of the alumni to support regional economic and social development. He then invited more alumni to join in contributing to the growth of their alma mater and the prosperity of society.

On the same afternoon, the Annual Meeting of Regional Alumni Associations 2025 was held. During the meeting, Rector Jun Liu shared the latest developments and achievements of the University and presented three requirements for the work of the alumni association:

  1. Establish a mutual support mechanism for new and old graduates to enhance alumni belonging, create mutually beneficial value from the connections between the alma mater and alumni, and strengthen the sense of a shared honor community;
  2. Expand the social impact of the University to attract quality applicants and continuously improve its reputation;
  3. Actively integrate an international perspective and multiculturalism to expand the global cooperation network.

Subsequently, representatives from nine regional alumni associations provided updates on their recent activities and discussed the future development direction of the alumni associations. Pro-Rector Robert Chan Chon Pat acknowledged the achievements of various regional alumni associations in recent years. He mentioned that to better support the development of these associations and provide more convenient services for alumni, a new membership system was launched. He introduced the “CityUer” service WeChat applet to enhance the impact of alumni activities.

Going forward, the University will continue to support the development of alumni associations, hoping that regional associations will serve as role models and inspire the establishment of more branches in other areas, promoting mutual progress between alumni and the University and jointly nurturing talent.
