CityU’s Hospitality & Tourism Management Discipline listed in ShanghaiRanking for three consecutive years, ranked among top 20% of universities worldwide in “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects”

The Hospitality and Tourism Management discipline offered by the City University of Macau (CityU) has been listed in the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022 and ranked among the top 20% of universities worldwide in the range of 51-75 places. CityU has been on the list of "Global Ranking of Academic Subjects" for three consecutive years since 2020, making it among the top 20% of those listed.

This month, the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy announced the “2022 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects”. It is an annual ranking of global universities which covers 54 disciplines and five major areas. The universities listed in the ranking have proven their research excellence and education quality in the field and demonstrated themselves as trustworthy and well-recognised tertiary education institutions around the globe.

 

The Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) of CityU is committed to serving the Macao SAR Government’s strategy of developing Macao as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. In line with its mission of “promoting innovative teaching and scientific research, cultivating high-quality tourism talents, and fostering social harmony and prosperity”, FITM strives to develop into an influential institution in Macao and the Asia Pacific region, with high international standard, distinctive features and profoundly engaged in industry-academia collaboration.

FITM has taken the lead in offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programmes in Macao that are accredited by the TedQual Certification by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) at all degree levels. The faculty emphasises multi-disciplinarity and high-quality development in education. As the tourism and services industry are leading sectors in Macao, the SAR Government has poured tremendous effort into exploring development in these sectors. The faculty and students have published over a hundred outstanding academic papers in international journals to address challenges in the real world. FITM has gained remarkable achievements in industry-academia collaboration in the field and provided intellectual support to local development.

In addition, FITM is committed to multi-disciplinarity and quality education in its mission of talent cultivation. It provides students with short-term and long-term internship programmes in Macao and overseas. The faculty invites renowned experts, scholars and industrial grants from home and abroad to give lectures and hold exchanges. FITM strives to strengthen cross-cultural interactions, and carries out academic activities and collaborations with universities, businesses and organisations worldwide through multiple formats. To achieve the goals, it has developed the Computational Tourism Science Laboratory and the Virtual Reality Laboratory for Tourism to support its team of PhD researchers with big data collection and analysis skill for Macao and the Greater Bay Area. So far, FITM has published a number of research papers on data analysis in refereed tourism journals.
