The Chairman of the Council of the City University of Macau Chan Meng Kam, the newly appointed Rector of CityU Professor Shu Guang Zhang, and the Secretary General of the Council of the CityU Robert Chan, paid a visit to the Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Edmund Ho Hau Wah on August 13, 2015. Edmund Ho Hau Wah warmly welcomed the CityU delegation and especially expressed his congratulations to Rector Shu Guang Zhang for his new post, hoping that with Rector Zhang’s rich experiences in higher education administration and together with other administrators of CityU, CityU can be led to step up to a new stage. Mr. Ho pointed out that by putting into full play of the priorities of “One Country, Two Systems” and the favorable geographical location, all universities in Macau should be based locally but oriented nationally and internationally, strengthen academic ties with universities in Mainland China and the rest of the world, and run excellent universities with distinctive characteristics in Macau. Since initial success of development has been achieved in CityU, Mr. Ho encouraged CityU to take advantage of moving to the new campus as an opportunity, incorporate closely into national and regional development strategies, and spare no efforts to promote the development of higher education in Macau. Rector Shu Guang Zhang pointed out that with the Macao SAR Government support, higher education in Macau has been developing rapidly in recent years. The development of the City U just goes along with this momentum of rapid growth. Nowadays, with the main campus available, the university has entered a new period of development. Our educational quality should be further upgraded. Our disciplines and programs will be established to meet closely the needs of national and regional development. We will focus on the cultivation of practical people of talents in business and trade, cultural creativity, tourism and conference exhibition, humanities and so on, so as to provide human resources and intelligent support to the sustainable development in Macau. |
